A decade of work in Emerald and across the Central Highlands taught us which services are worth doing properly and which aren't. We kept the first list, dropped the second, and rebuilt the business around what's left.
A decade of learning what regional IT actually needs.
CQ Computing Solutions started in 2016 from home in Emerald, doing whatever small businesses in the Central Highlands needed done. That meant break-fix PC work one day, a Wi-Fi rebuild the next, and a long list of side-jobs that all paid the bills but none of them in a way that scaled.
For the first several years we said yes to too many things. It kept the lights on, but it also meant nothing got the focus it deserved. Meanwhile the businesses we cared about most, the ones running real operations across the Highlands, were slowly outgrowing break-fix. They needed someone to own their IT properly, month in and month out, at a fixed number with no surprises.
So in 2023 we rebuilt the business around that one thing. Remote-first managed IT, end to end, for small and medium businesses in Central Queensland. Web, app and custom software work moved to our sister business Echo Technology. CQ Computing now does one thing, and does it properly.
Remote-first is a deliberate choice, not a cost corner. It means most issues get fixed in minutes rather than hours, and you're not paying drive time for problems that never needed one. Our Emerald office stays as the base for gear, planned onsite days and client meetings. The rhythm just got a lot more honest.

- 2016
CQ Computing started in Emerald.
Began as a one-person operation fixing whatever Central Queensland businesses needed. PCs, networks, printers, the odd website. Break-fix, mostly.
- 2018
First fully managed client.
The break-fix model kept breaking. A regional client asked for a monthly arrangement and a single number to call. That became the template.
- 2020
Regional remote-work scramble.
When COVID hit, every business in the Highlands needed laptops, VPNs, cloud accounts and backups in a week. We learned to move fast without cutting corners, and remote-first stopped being a preference and became the default.
- 2021
Opened the Emerald office at The Hub.
A dedicated base at The Hub on Opal Street for gear, onsite trips and client meetings across the Central Highlands.
- 2022
Stopped taking side-jobs.
Retired or referred every non-core service. Web, app and custom software work was moved to our sister business, Echo Technology, so both businesses could focus.
- 2023
MSP-only. Remote-first positioning.
Rebuilt the business around remote-first managed IT for regional SMBs. Fixed monthly plans, honest scope, scheduled onsite where it actually matters.

Still going, still focused.
Efficiently managing IT for 30+ businesses across Central Queensland. Same remote-first model, same fixed monthly plans, same direct line every time.
Cameron runs CQ.
Cameron founded CQ Computing Solutions in Emerald in 2016 and has been working hands-on with Central Queensland businesses ever since. A decade of break-fix, managed IT, networks, backups, sleepless 24-hour migrations and the occasional 2 a.m. server call has shaped how the business runs today.
Cameron also runs Echo Technology, CQ's sister business, which handles websites, apps and custom software work. Two businesses, one principal, each focused on what they do well.
